QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER 1 2021

“Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.” – Jonas Salk

Dear readers, we are grateful that you take your time to read our Newsletters. If you missed the last edition, please read it here. Enjoy as we take you through it all.

Leadership and Responsibility

Are leaders born or made? Either made or born, having a role to discover potential and build capacity is always a good start. In January, we set up a platform where learners can take up the responsibility of managing one another. After setting the expectations, we had an election to select a President, General Secretary and Member. We also started a Rescue Team. They are equipped with paramedical skills to provide first aid services within our community.

Crotchet making and Barbing

In conjunction with Zahra Empire, we organized crochet making classes for nine learners who had signified their interest in the skill. Zarah Empire is a conglomerate of skills across craft and arts. Few weeks after, we started hair barbing class for interested learners, both male and female. In addition to the excitement of learning new skills, the learners are particularly grateful that they will no longer trek the long distance to get clean haircut.

Community Project

On 19th of March, 2021, we marched down to Ile-osa community. Ile-osa is about 40 minutes walking distance from Arikanki village. This is how far some of our learners walk to the space, every day. We went there to sensitize them on Water Hygiene. We also gave out free Water purifier and bath soap to the community members. In turn, we were entertained with lot of local meal and happy stories. Click here to read more

Fashion Program

In March, we opened our training centre. The first training will be on Fashion Design. The program is designed for teenage mothers and youths within the community. Our aim is to introduce other skills as we progress. Click here to read more

Some of our Plans for the Second Quarter of 2021

  • Construct a DIY Lab for Science projects
  • Virtual Book launch (some our learners wrote a book)
  • Start a Design School
  • Enrol first batch of participants for the Fashion Program
  • Start Farming Program
  • Exposure trip to Waste Museum in Ibadan
  • Children designed community project

Dear Friends and supporters,

Without your help we would not have been able to achieve all of these. Our gratitude goes to Bloom & Give, Eridan Group, Leopold Bachmann Foundation, kanthari Foundation Switzerland and our individual sponsors. Therefore, on behalf of all our children and the Bramble Team, we say a very big thank you for your continuous support. Do help share this newsletter among your network of friends and associates.

Warm regards,
Odunayo, and the entire Bramble Team.
