As we approach the commencement of the fourth cohort of our School Leadership Programme (SLP), it goes without saying that the programme was designed to address leadership gaps within school systems.
Having identified that strong schools are shaped by strong leadership, not just good teaching, it is essential for school founders, owners, and lead administrators to be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills needed to build and sustain effective schools.
Why Building Strong School Leadership Matters
It is easy to conclude that good teaching and adequate facilities are what drive a school’s success. However, the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report 2024/25 notes that “there is a growing belief that educational leadership is the second most important factor explaining learning outcomes” after teaching quality. This suggests that effective schools should not invest in teaching and educational resources alone without strengthening their leadership systems.

The smooth running and effective management of school resources lie with leadership, and when leadership is weak, it can affect the quality of learners’ education and overall welfare.
School leadership is often reduced to playing an administrative role alone, when it has the capacity to influence and drive meaningful change, ensuring that schools achieve both learning and organisational outcomes.
Bramble’s School Leadership Programme (SLP) is rooted in the belief that strong leadership is at the heart of improving learning outcomes, strengthening school systems, and creating environments where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Hence, the programme is tailored to equip school leaders with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills to drive meaningful change in their schools. It offers a combination of leadership development, practical management strategies, peer learning, and implementation support.
Every school leader deserves to understand the demands of their role and not reduce it to administrative responsibilities alone. They should know how to navigate the complexities of school management while balancing instructional leadership, financial sustainability, and people management to build strong, effective schools.
What’s New In Cohort IV? The GESL Partnership
For Cohort IV, Bramble Network is partnering with Global School Leaders through the Gender Equitable School Leaders (GESL) Alliance.

This partnership strengthens and brings a sharper focus to the programme. It ensures that school leaders are equipped to build not only stronger schools but also safer and more inclusive learning environments where every learner, regardless of gender, has an equal opportunity to thrive.
The Gender Equitable School Leaders (GESL) Alliance focuses on supporting school leaders to understand and address gender-related barriers within school environments.
Issues such as gender stereotypes, gender bias in school leadership, unequal participation and opportunities for learners, discriminatory school practices, and barriers affecting girls’ education will be explored throughout the programme. More importantly, participants will learn practical approaches to identifying these challenges and implementing sustainable solutions within their respective schools.
Consequently, participating school leaders in this cohort will learn practical strategies for creating schools where girls and boys are supported equally, classrooms are inclusive, and school policies and practices promote fairness, safety, and participation for all learners.
The programme will also explore how leadership decisions, school culture, teaching practices, and community engagement can influence gender equity and improve learning experiences.
What School Leaders Will Gain
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Strengthen their leadership capacity and improve their approach to school management.
- Develop a deeper understanding of gender-equitable practices in schools.
- Create safer and more inclusive learning environments for students.
- Identify barriers affecting learners and develop practical solutions within their schools.
- Improve school systems, structures, and decision-making processes.
- Develop and implement a gender-equitable school improvement project.

This cohort will support 40 school leaders across Kwara and Oyo States through an eight-month hybrid programme beginning in September 2026. It will feature:
- In training sessions across Oyo and Kwara state
- Ongoing virtual learning sessions.
- School-based implementation of lessons learned throughout the programme.
Selected schools will also have the opportunity to compete for a micro-grant, while the most compelling gender-equitable school improvement projects emerging from the programme will receive implementation support.
Be a Part of What We’re Building
This opportunity is open to school owners, founders, proprietors, and lead administrators, with priority given to schools in Kwara and Oyo States. Islamic schools within these states are especially encouraged to apply.
We are not just building strong school leaders; we are raising effective, inclusive, and gender-responsive leaders who can strengthen school systems, improve learning outcomes, and create schools where every learner is given equal opportunity to succeed.
